Ice jam and dispenser faults
The DI SP ice jam alarm, a frozen auger from infrequent use, a dispenser that stops, and ice maker faults after an outage.

Frigidaire fridge not cooling, an ice jam alarm, or HI blinking on the display? We repair Frigidaire top-freezer, side-by-side and French door refrigerators across Fort Myers. We check the settings Frigidaire lists, then test the parts, and quote before any work begins.
Frigidaire fridges are popular in rentals and family homes, and their faults tend to be airflow, ice and frost.
The DI SP ice jam alarm, a frozen auger from infrequent use, a dispenser that stops, and ice maker faults after an outage.
A fridge that will not cool, HI high-temperature alerts, blocked airflow, fans, dampers, thermostats and a compressor that will not start.
Frost in the freezer from a warped door gasket or a chute flap that will not close, plus defrost heaters, sensors and timers.
The PF power failure alert, surge damage to relays and boards, and a display that beeps or lights up without cooling.
Frigidaire refrigerators are a staple in Southwest Florida kitchens and rentals. Frigidaire’s own support pages give a clear set of owner alerts: DI SP for an ice jam, HI for a high temperature, PF for a power failure, a door-ajar alarm after five minutes, and two modes (SB SB for Sabbath mode and 77 77 for Demo mode) that are not faults. They also give sensible numbers for settings, stabilization and installation.
Most of the time, an alert has a simple cause: a door left open, an outage, a frozen auger. But when the alert returns, or the fridge is warm, a part has usually failed. We use Frigidaire’s own guidance to rule out the simple causes, then test the fan, defrost parts, relay and cooling circuit.
Frigidaire says units within 30 days of installation should go back to the installer, and later units to Frigidaire service. After that, independent repair is a fair choice. See our refrigerator repair FAQs for general checks.

These points come from Frigidaire’s owner support pages. They are the benchmarks we check against on a Frigidaire fridge.
Frigidaire recommends 37°F for the fridge and 0°F for the freezer, and says the acceptable range is 33°F to 47°F and -6°F to 6°F.
A newly installed unit needs 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize, and ice production waits for that. After an outage, allow 24 hours too.
A dedicated, properly grounded 115 to 120 volt outlet on a 15 or 20 amp breaker.
Do not install where temperatures drop below 55°F.
The door-ajar alarm sounds after about 5 minutes, and the ice dispenser paddle shuts off automatically after 3 minutes of continuous use.
Frigidaire recommends changing the water filter every 6 months, and priming and purging a new one.
These are the alerts Frigidaire lists for owners. The meanings are from Frigidaire’s official page, and the middle columns add what we would try and when to call.
| Code | What Frigidaire says it means | What to try | When to call |
|---|---|---|---|
| DI SP (or DISP) | Ice jam: ice is jammed in the chute | Remove, thaw, empty and clean the ice bin; replace it correctly | If it returns or the auger will not turn |
| H or HI (blinking) | High temperature in the fridge or freezer for over an hour | Check the doors, the seal and the loading | If it stays high without a door cause |
| PF | Power failure: an outage or a power surge | Check temperatures; clear the alert | If the fridge will not cool afterwards |
| Door Ajar | A door has been open for more than about 5 minutes | Close the door fully; check the seal | If it sounds with the door shut |
| SB SB | Sabbath mode (a function, not a fault) | Hold the “-” and Temp F-C buttons for 5 seconds to switch it | Not a fault |
| 77 77 | Demo mode (a store display mode) | Unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect | If it will not leave the mode |
| Beeping or display lights up | A possible power issue | Unplug for 2 to 3 minutes, or use Clear Alerts | If it keeps happening |
Code meanings are summarized from Frigidaire’s official support page: Frigidaire refrigerator error codes and alarms. Codes and fixes can differ by model, so check your manual too.
Match what you see to the usual cause, and to what is safe to try before you call.
| What you see | Usual cause | Safe first check | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| DI SP or the dispenser stops | Ice jam, or a frozen auger from infrequent use | Thaw and empty the bin; check the chute | Auger or dispenser repair |
| HI blinking | Door left open, or the fridge unable to hold temperature | Close and check the door; the seal | Seal, fan or cooling repair |
| Fridge not cooling after an outage | A relay, a board, or the fridge still stabilizing | Reset the breaker; wait 24 hours | Replace the damaged part |
| Frost in the freezer | Warped gasket, chute flap not closing, or settings too cold | Check the seal and the chute flap; vents | Seal or defrost repair |
| No ice | Warm freezer, old filter, water supply, or a failed valve | Freezer near 0°F; filter age; the supply | Valve or ice maker repair |
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Fan, damper or frost on the evaporator | Look for frost; listen for the fan | Fan or defrost repair |
| Water in the crisper drawers | Clogged or frozen defrost drain | Look for ice at the freezer floor | Clear the drain; fix why it froze |
| Clicking, then silence | Start relay, capacitor or compressor | Listen for a click every few minutes | Replace the relay or capacitor |
On the call we ask the model number, what the display says and what the fridge is doing.
We check the temperatures, the doors, the seal, the outlet and the airflow, using Frigidaire’s own guidance as a reference.
We test the fan, defrost parts, sensors, relay, auger and cooling circuit to prove what has failed.
You hear the cause, the part and the price, and our honest view on repair versus replacement.
We fit the part and confirm cooling. We explain how long to wait for temperature and ice to settle.
Frigidaire fridges are common in family homes and rentals around Fort Myers. These are the local factors we think about on a Frigidaire call.
Many Frigidaire fridges are in rentals. We can give a short written diagnosis and quote for a landlord or property manager.
After a storm, reset the breaker and give the fridge 24 hours, as Frigidaire advises. Call us if it still will not cool.
Frigidaire lists a warped gasket as a cause of freezer frost, and Fort Myers humidity makes a leaky door seal show up quickly.
Frigidaire says not to install below 55°F, and a hot garage in August is a harder test. Give a garage fridge air space.
$100 - $450 depending on scope
Most Frigidaire repairs in Fort Myers fall within $100 to $450. A gasket, relay, thermostat, fan or filter is toward the lower end. A main control board, an ice maker assembly or a compressor can cost more. You get a clear quote before any work begins.
A relay, fan or gasket is modest. A defrost assembly, board or compressor costs more.
Frigidaire parts are widely available, but depend on the model. Give us the model number.
SB SB (Sabbath mode) and 77 77 (Demo mode) need no repair. We tell you honestly if that is all it is.
If you rent, the landlord may need to approve the cost, so we can give a written quote.
Frigidaire fridges in rentals often get repaired at the landlord's cost, so we weigh the quote against a new unit. Under about 10 years and a single part, repair is usually right.
When comparing companies, ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and whether parts and labor are in the quote.
| Job | Typical range | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Fan motor, relay or thermostat | $95 to $300 | Part, model and access |
| Door seal | $60 to $100 | Model and number of doors |
| Control board or compressor | $500 to $1,000+ | Model and age |

DI SP, or DISP, means ice is jammed in the chute. Frigidaire says an alarm sounds when a cube is stuck too long. The fix is to remove the ice bin, thaw and empty it, clean it, wipe it dry and put it back in the correct position. When new ice is made, the dispenser should work. If it keeps returning, the auger or the chute needs attention.
Frigidaire says HI blinking means the temperature in the fridge or freezer has been too high for over an hour, usually because a door was left open. Check that both doors are fully closed and sealing. If the fridge cannot get back to temperature, a failed fan, a leaking seal or a cooling fault is possible.
PF means a power failure: an outage or a power surge. Reset the circuit breaker, give the fridge 24 hours to stabilize, and check the temperature. If it will not cool afterwards, a surge may have damaged a relay or board, and we can test it. Throw away perishables that were above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
SB SB is Sabbath mode, a religious-observance mode that minimizes power use, and Frigidaire says to hold the minus and Temp F-C buttons for five seconds to toggle it. 77 77 is Demo mode, a store display mode. Frigidaire says to unplug the fridge for 5 minutes and reconnect it. Neither is a fault.
Frigidaire recommends 37°F for the fridge and 0°F for the freezer. It says the acceptable ranges are 33°F to 47°F for the fridge and -6°F to 6°F for the freezer. Allow 24 hours to stabilize, and use a thermometer, because the dial may not show the real temperature.
Frigidaire says a new unit needs 24 hours to stabilize, that it needs a dedicated grounded outlet, and that blocked vents stop airflow. Check the door seal with the dollar-bill test, and clean the gasket. If those are fine, a failed fan, a defrost fault, a relay or the compressor circuit needs testing.
Frigidaire says the unit needs 24 hours to stabilize before ice production, that the filter should be changed every 6 months, and that a new filter should be primed and purged. After an outage, reset the breaker and wait 24 hours. A frozen auger from infrequent use is also common. If none of that fixes it, the valve or ice maker may have failed.
Frigidaire says the dispenser has an automatic shutoff after 3 minutes of continuous use to prevent the motor overheating. Release the paddle and try again. If it stops sooner than that, check for a frozen auger, which can happen from infrequent use, or for ice jammed in the chute.
Frigidaire lists a warped door gasket or door, an ice chute flap that will not close, a setting colder than 0°F, and blocked vents as causes. Check the door closes fully, test the seal, check the chute flap is shut and clear the vents. Heavy frost on the back wall can also be a failed defrost part.
If the Frigidaire is under about 10 years old and a part like a relay, fan, valve or gasket has failed, repair it. If the quote runs past half the price of a similar new fridge, replace it. We give you both numbers and let you decide.
No. We are an independent refrigerator repair company, not affiliated with or endorsed by Frigidaire. Frigidaire says to contact the installer for a unit installed within 30 days, and its own service after that. We repair Frigidaire refrigerators using its published guidance as a reference.
Yes. We repair Frigidaire refrigerators across Fort Myers and nearby areas, including Cape Coral, Estero, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. Give us the model number, what the display says and what the fridge is doing when you call, and we plan the visit.
Water inside, under the crisper drawers, is usually a frozen defrost drain, and Frigidaire lists a warped gasket and an ice chute flap that will not close as causes of frost that can lead to it. Water on the floor can be the supply line, the inlet valve or the filter housing. Shut off the supply valve behind the fridge. If the leak stops, it is on the water side.
