Icemaker and ice mold faults
No ice, hollow or mushy cubes, an icemaker that will not complete a cycle, a blocked ice mold, and the CI code. We test the supply and the freezer before the icemaker.

GE fridge warm, icemaker not producing ice, or a dE, FF or PF code on the display? We repair GE and GE Profile refrigerators across Fort Myers, from older side-by-side units to French door models. We read what the code means, test the part, and quote before any work begins.
GE fridges are common, and so are their faults. Many GE problems start with a defrost system, the icemaker or the water supply to it.
No ice, hollow or mushy cubes, an icemaker that will not complete a cycle, a blocked ice mold, and the CI code. We test the supply and the freezer before the icemaker.
The dE code, frost on the freezer wall, defrost heaters, thermostats and timers, and a warm fridge from a frosted coil.
The CC code, a fridge that is too warm or too cold, fans, dampers, thermostats and a compressor that will not start.
The PF code after an outage, a dead display, surge damage to relays and boards, and Demo mode (DE), which stops cooling.
GE and GE Profile fridges are among the most common in Fort Myers homes, from long-running side-by-side models to newer French door and bottom-freezer units. GE builds a small set of fault codes into many electronic dispensers, mainly for technicians, and they tell you where to start. The ones owners notice most are FF, PF, CI, dE and CC.
One detail that trips people up: GE lists a capital DE and a lowercase dE, and they mean very different things. DE is Demo mode, which turns cooling off, and dE says the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours. The first is a settings fix. The second needs a technician. We tell you which you have.
GE says a power outage shows as PF, and a power cycle may clear the control panel. Our refrigerator repair FAQs cover general checks for outages and surges.

These points come from GE Appliances support pages. They are the benchmarks we check against on a GE fridge.
GE says to set the freezer to 0°F and the fresh food compartment to 37°F.
GE says the icemaker needs a temperature of 16°F before a cycle will begin, so a warm freezer stops it.
Replace filters every 6 months. A clogged filter can restrict the flow to the icemaker, and sediment-heavy areas may need it more often.
A freezer that is three-quarters full or more helps keep temperatures stable.
GE points to water pressure, and notes that self-tapping saddle valves often do not provide adequate flow.
The dE code means the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours.
These are the codes GE lists for refrigerators with electronic dispenser controls. The meanings are from GE’s official page, and the middle columns add what we would try and when to call.
| Code | What GE says it means | What to try | When to call |
|---|---|---|---|
| FF | Check frozen food for thawing, because the temperature is rising too high | Check the food, the door and the freezer temperature | If the freezer keeps warming |
| PF | The power to the refrigerator has been interrupted | Check the temperature after the outage; power cycle | If it will not cool afterwards |
| CI | Check the icemaker for proper operation | Check the filter, the water supply and the ice mold | If the icemaker still does not work |
| dE (lowercase d) | The defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours | Look for frost on the freezer wall | Call: a defrost part may have failed |
| DE (capital) | Demo mode, which disables the cooling system | Unplug for 1 to 2 minutes, then restart | If it persists |
| CC | Check the temperature controls, because the fridge temperature is incorrect | Check the settings and the door seal | If the temperature will not hold |
| tC, tF | Turbo Cool or Turbo Freeze is active (a normal function, not a fault) | None; the feature ends by itself | Not a fault |
Code meanings are summarized from GE’s official support page: GE refrigerator error, fault or function codes. Codes and fixes can differ by model, so check your manual too.
Match what you see to the usual cause, and to what is safe to try before you call.
| What you see | Usual cause | Safe first check | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Icemaker not producing ice | Warm freezer, clogged filter, blocked ice mold, supply problem or a failed icemaker | Freezer near 0°F; filter age; ice mold | Filter, valve or icemaker repair |
| Small, hollow or mushy ice | Low water pressure or a self-tapping saddle valve | Check the pressure and the valve type | Fit a proper valve; fix the supply |
| Display shows dE | Defrost system fault | Look for frost on the freezer wall | Replace the failed defrost part |
| Display shows DE | Demo mode | Unplug for 1 to 2 minutes and restart | None, if it clears |
| PF after an outage and the fridge is warm | Surge or a relay or board problem | Wait a few hours; power cycle | Replace the damaged part |
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Evaporator fan, damper or frost on the coil | Look for frost; listen for the fan | Fan or defrost repair |
| FF alert, freezer warming | Failed fan, frost, a leaking seal or cooling fault | Move food; check the seal | Fan, seal or cooling repair |
| Clicking, then silence | Start relay or compressor | Listen for a click every few minutes | Replace the relay; test the compressor |
On the call we ask the model number, what the display says and what the fridge is doing.
We check Demo mode, the temperatures and airflow, then test the icemaker, the defrost parts, the fans and the cooling circuit.
For icemaker faults, we check the filter, the saddle valve, the pressure and the fill tube before replacing the icemaker.
You hear the cause, the part and the price, and our honest view on repair versus replacement.
We fit the part and confirm cooling. We explain how long a GE icemaker takes to restart.
GE fridges turn up in homes of every age in Fort Myers. These are the local factors we think about on a GE call.
Many Fort Myers homes have long-running GE units. A relay, fan or defrost part on an older GE is often worth replacing, but a compressor may not be.
After a storm, PF appears when power is interrupted. Check the temperature, and call us if the fridge will not cool once power is steady.
GE notes sediment-heavy water may need more frequent filter changes. Homes on private wells, common in Lehigh Acres, often fall in that category.
Humid Florida air feeds frost, which can lead to dE. A worn door seal makes it worse.
$100 - $450 depending on scope
Most GE repairs in Fort Myers fall within $100 to $450. A filter, saddle valve, relay, thermostat, fan or gasket is toward the lower end. A main control board, an icemaker assembly or a compressor can cost more. You get a clear quote before any work begins.
A relay, fan or valve is modest. A defrost assembly, board or compressor costs more.
GE parts are widely available but depend on the exact model. Give us the model number.
A proper shut-off valve in place of a saddle valve helps an icemaker, and adds a small amount to the visit.
A fridge in Demo mode needs no repair. We tell you honestly if that is all it is.
Many GE fridges soldier on for a long time, so we look at the fault as much as the age. A single failed part under about 10 years is usually worth fixing, and a compressor on an older GE often is not.
When comparing companies, ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and whether parts and labor are in the quote.
| Job | Typical range | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Fan motor, relay or thermostat | $95 to $300 | Part, model and access |
| Icemaker assembly or valve | $105 to $500 | Valve or complete assembly |
| Control board or compressor | $500 to $1,000+ | Model and age |

A lowercase dE means the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours, according to GE. That points to a failed defrost heater, sensor or timer, so frost builds on the evaporator and blocks the air. Look at the freezer back wall. A capital DE is something else entirely, which is Demo mode.
A capital DE is Demo mode, which disables the cooling system, and GE says to unplug the fridge for 1 to 2 minutes and restart it. A lowercase dE means the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours, and usually needs service. We can tell you which you have from a photo of the display.
PF means the power to the fridge has been interrupted, such as an outage or a trip. Check the temperature, since food may have warmed. A power cycle can clear the code. If the fridge will not cool once power is steady, a surge may have damaged a relay or board, and we can test it.
GE says FF means to check the frozen food for thawing, because the temperature is rising too high. Check the freezer door and the seal, and put a thermometer inside. A failed fan, frost or a weak cooling system is the usual cause. If the freezer keeps warming, move food and call us.
CI means to check the icemaker for proper operation. Check the filter, the water supply and whether ice is releasing from the ice mold. GE says a blockage in the mold can stop the ejector rake working. If the icemaker still does not produce ice, the valve or the unit may have failed.
GE says to check the freezer is at 0°F and the fresh food section at 37°F, that the filter is not clogged, and that ice releases from the mold. The icemaker needs about 16°F before a cycle will begin. If those are fine, the valve, the fill tube or the icemaker may have failed.
GE points to water pressure. It also notes that self-tapping saddle valves often do not give enough water flow, and suggests replacing one with a non-self-tapping valve. A clogged filter or a kinked line can do the same. We check the pressure and the valve, then the icemaker.
GE says every 6 months, because a clogged filter can restrict the water flow to the icemaker. Sediment-heavy areas may need more frequent changes. After a new filter, run several gallons through. If the flow stays slow, check the line and the valve.
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent and fan. If the freezer is cold and the fridge is warm, the fan, a damper or frost on the coil is blocking it. Look for frost, and for dE on the display. A frosted coil needs the failed defrost part replaced.
Usually, if the GE is under about 10 years old and the fault is a relay, fan, valve, thermostat or gasket. When the quote passes half the price of a comparable new fridge, replace it. A compressor on an older GE is the classic borderline case, and we give you both numbers.

Yes. We repair GE and GE Profile refrigerators across Fort Myers and nearby areas, including Cape Coral, Estero, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. Give us the model number, what the display says and what the fridge is doing when you call, and we plan the visit.
Check the filter first, since GE says to replace it every 6 months and a clogged one restricts the flow. Then check the supply line for kinks and the shut-off valve. GE also notes that a self-tapping saddle valve often does not give enough flow. If the ice maker works but the dispenser does not, the dispenser path or valve is the cause.
