Fan and sensor codes
Er FF, Er rF, Er CF and Er IF fan codes, and freezer, refrigerator, defrost and ice-maker sensor faults. We check for ice and blockage before replacing a motor.

LG fridge warm, ice maker not working, or an Er code on the display? We repair LG French door, side-by-side and top- and bottom-freezer refrigerators across Fort Myers. We decode the fault, test the part, and give you honest advice, including on linear compressor problems and warranty, before any work begins.
LG refrigerators lean on fans, sensors and an inverter compressor, so the faults are often electronic or airflow related. We test before we replace.
Er FF, Er rF, Er CF and Er IF fan codes, and freezer, refrigerator, defrost and ice-maker sensor faults. We check for ice and blockage before replacing a motor.
No or little ice, Er gF flow-sensor errors, water tank faults and dispenser issues, including Craft Ice models.
Warm fridge with a cold freezer, frost on the evaporator, Er dH defrost heater faults and Er dS defrost sensor faults.
Inverter linear compressor concerns, Er CH and Er CL cycle-leak codes and Er FU cycle errors. We prove the fault and explain warranty before you pay.
LG fridges use an inverter linear compressor, electronic sensors and, on many models, fans for the freezer, fridge and ice compartments. LG’s own error code page lists fan, sensor, defrost, ice-maker, water-tank and cycle-leak faults, and most of them tell you to request service. That is where we come in: the code tells you where to look, and a technician proves what has failed.
LG compressors get a lot of attention online, so we are straight about it. A fridge that is warm is not automatically a compressor failure. A fan, a sensor or a defrost fault is far more common, and each costs much less. If the compressor is the problem, we explain the repair price, the age of the fridge and the warranty position, so you can make an informed decision.
A newly installed LG fridge can take up to two days to start making ice, according to LG. Our refrigerator repair FAQs cover the general checks.

These points come from LG’s support pages and are the benchmarks we check against on an LG fridge.
LG says the minimum recommended temperature for ice production is -4°F, and ice is made more slowly if the freezer is set warmer.
A newly installed LG refrigerator can take up to two days to begin making ice.
Replace the filter if you have used it for six months or longer. An old or clogged filter means smaller or fewer cubes.
Overfilling or blocking the air vents stops cold air circulating. LG says to remove items that block the vents.
Dust and debris on the condenser reduce cooling. LG suggests a vacuum with an attachment on the condenser cover and vents.
LG’s product support pages list 10 years parts and 5 years labor on the Inverter Linear Compressor. Cover can differ by model and purchase date.
These are the codes we are asked about most. The meanings are from LG’s official page, and the middle columns add what we would try and when to call.
| Code | What LG says it means | What to try | When to call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Er FF | Freezer fan error (fan blockage detected) | Check for ice around the fan; unplug 60 seconds | Call if it returns |
| Er rF | Refrigerator fan error | Check for blockage; restart | Call if it returns |
| Er CF | Condenser fan error | Clean dust from the condenser area | Call if it returns |
| Er IF | Ice maker fan error | Check for ice buildup | Call |
| Er dS | Defrost sensor fault; the evaporator may freeze over | Note any frost or warm fridge | Call |
| Er dH | Defrost heater (resistance) fault | Do not chip ice | Call |
| Er FS, Er rS, Er IS | Freezer, refrigerator or ice maker sensor error | Restart once | Call |
| Er gF | Flow sensor error in the water system | Check the water supply, hoses for kinks and the pressure | Call if it returns |
| Er CO, Er C1 | Communication error between the main board and the display or dispenser | Unplug 60 seconds | Call if it returns |
| Er FU | Cycle error | Unplug 60 seconds; check the door seals, settings and airflow | Call if it returns |
| Er CH, Er CL | High-side or low-side cycle leak (a refrigerant leak is indicated) | Do not run it for long | Call |
Code meanings are summarized from LG’s official support page: LG refrigerator error codes. Codes and fixes can differ by model, so check your manual too.
Match what you see to the usual cause, and to what is safe to try before you call.
| What you see | Usual cause | Safe first check | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Refrigerator fan, damper or frost on the evaporator | Look for frost; listen for the fan | Fan or defrost repair |
| Display shows Er FF, rF, CF or IF | A fan that is blocked by ice, dust or has failed | Check for ice or debris; restart | Clear the cause; replace the fan |
| No ice, or small cubes | Warm freezer, old filter, low pressure or a failed ice maker | Check the freezer temperature and the filter age | Filter, valve or module repair |
| Er gF or slow water | Flow sensor, kinked hose or low pressure | Check the supply and the hose | Sensor or valve repair |
| Frost and a warm fridge | Defrost heater or sensor failure (Er dH, Er dS) | Do not chip ice | Replace the failed defrost part |
| Warm fridge, compressor running or clicking | Start components, a weak compressor or a refrigerant leak | Listen at the back; check the coils | Test relay first; compressor if proven |
| Display blank or dead after a storm | Surge damage or communication fault (Er CO) | Unplug for 60 seconds | Replace the damaged part |
| Water on the floor | Defrost drain, water line or filter housing | Shut off the supply valve | Drain, line or valve repair |
On the call we ask the model number, any Er code and what the fridge is doing. A photo of the label helps.
We use the code to start, then test the fan, sensor, heater or compressor circuit before replacing anything.
If the compressor is the problem, we explain the repair price, the fridge’s age and your warranty position before you spend.
You hear the cause, the part and the price, and our honest view on repair versus replacement.
We fit the part and confirm cooling. We explain what to watch over the next day.
LG is a popular choice in Fort Myers kitchens, so these local factors come up often on an LG call.
If an LG linear compressor is diagnosed, check LG’s warranty with your model and purchase date before you pay. Some coverage is longer than a standard one-year cover.
LG fans run harder in a hot Fort Myers kitchen, and dust and ice cause the fan codes. Keep the condenser area clean.
Humid air feeds frost, which stresses the defrost heater and sensor. A worn door seal makes it worse.
A surge can trigger communication and sensor errors. Use a surge protector made for large appliances.
$100 - $450 depending on scope
Most LG repairs in Fort Myers fall within $100 to $450. A fan, sensor, heater, valve or gasket is toward the lower end. A main control board or a linear compressor can cost far more, and warranty may change what you pay. You get a clear quote before any work begins.
A fan or sensor is a modest repair. A defrost assembly, board or compressor costs more.
LG lists longer cover on the inverter linear compressor. Check before you pay for one.
Parts depend on the exact model. Give us the model number and we check before the visit.
These have more parts than a basic ice maker and usually cost more to fix.
On a fridge under about 10 years old, repair is usually worth it. On an older one, we compare with replacement.
When comparing companies, ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and whether parts and labor are in the quote.
| Job | Typical range | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Fan motor or sensor | $95 to $280 | Part, model and access |
| Ice maker assembly | $120 to $500 | Basic or in-door unit |
| Control board or compressor | $500 to $1,000+ | Model, age and warranty |

First check the display. “Off” means Demo Mode, and Lo or HI are ambient-temperature indicators, not faults. Then check for an overfilled fridge or blocked vents, which LG says stop cold air circulating, and dust on the condenser cover. If none of that applies, a fan, a defrost fault or the compressor circuit needs testing.
LG lists Er FF as a freezer fan error, with a fan blockage detected. Ice on the fan is a common cause. Unplug the fridge for 60 seconds, check for ice or debris, and restart. If the error returns, the fan motor or the defrost system needs testing, which we do often.
They are fan errors on LG's page: Er rF is the refrigerator fan, Er CF the condenser fan and Er IF the ice maker fan. Each says a blockage was detected. Ice or dust is often the cause. If the error returns after you clear it, the fan has failed, and we replace it.
Er dH is a defrost heater (resistance) fault, and Er dS a defrost sensor fault, according to LG. The evaporator may freeze over, which blocks the airflow and warms the fridge. Do not chip the ice. The failed defrost part has to be replaced, and a manual defrost only buys a few weeks.
LG says the minimum recommended temperature for ice production is -4°F, and ice is made more slowly if the freezer is warmer. Replace the water filter if it is six months old or more. A new fridge can take up to two days to make ice. If those are fine, the fill tube, valve or ice maker may have failed.
It is a flow sensor error in the water system. LG says to check the water supply, hoses for kinks and the water pressure, and restart if needed. A kinked hose behind the fridge, a closed supply valve or low pressure are common causes. If it returns, the flow sensor or the valve needs testing.
They are cycle-leak codes: Er CH is a high-side and Er CL a low-side cycle leak, which indicates a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant handling is regulated, so this is not a do-it-yourself job. A sealed-system leak is often a major repair, and we give you an honest repair-or-replace comparison.
LG's product support pages list the Inverter Linear Compressor warranty as 10 years parts and 5 years labor, but cover can differ by model and purchase date, and LG has offered extended coverage programs in some cases. Check LG's warranty information with your model and serial number before you pay. We can tell you whether the compressor really is the fault.
Not necessarily. A failed fan, a defrost fault or a sensor is more common and costs far less. We test those first. If the compressor is the cause, a repair usually costs $500 to $1,000 or more, and we explain the warranty and the age of the fridge so you can decide.
Usually yes if the fridge is under about 10 years old and the fault is a fan, sensor, heater, valve or gasket. If the repair costs more than half of a comparable new fridge, replacing is better value. Check your warranty first, especially for the compressor. We give you the repair price and an honest view.
No. We are an independent refrigerator repair company, not affiliated with or endorsed by LG. We repair LG refrigerators using the manufacturer's published guidance as a reference, and we tell you honestly if a manufacturer warranty or extended coverage may be worth checking before you pay.
Yes. We repair LG refrigerators across Fort Myers and nearby areas, including Cape Coral, Estero, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. Give us the model number, the Er code and what the fridge is doing when you call, and we plan the visit.
A faint dusty smell the first time a fridge runs can be dust burning off. A persistent burning smell is different. An overheating fan motor, a failing relay or compressor, a damaged wire or dust on a hot part can all do it. If it returns, unplug the fridge and call us. Do not keep running it while it smells burnt.
