Ice maker and ice room problems
Ice that freezes into a block, an ice maker that stops, or ice buildup around the ice room on French door models. We find why it iced up, not just thaw it.

Samsung fridge not cooling, ice maker iced over, or an error code on the display? We repair Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators across Fort Myers. We read the code, find the failed part, and quote the price before any work begins.
Samsung fridges have a few faults we see again and again. We know where to look, and we test before replacing anything.
Ice that freezes into a block, an ice maker that stops, or ice buildup around the ice room on French door models. We find why it iced up, not just thaw it.
Fridge warm while the freezer is cold, fan error codes such as 21E and 22E, and frost blocking the airflow. Fans, sensors, dampers and defrost parts.
Defrost sensor and ice-maker sensor codes, ice-pipe heater faults, water dispenser problems and leaks behind the fridge.
Compressor and voltage codes (83E, 84C, 85E, 86E), surge damage and control board issues. We test the cheap parts first.
Samsung makes a wide range of refrigerators, from side-by-side models to French door and Family Hub units, and most share the same basic cooling system as any other fridge. What sets them apart is the electronics, the display codes and, on some French door models, an ice maker located inside the fridge compartment that is prone to freezing up. Samsung’s own support pages list dozens of error codes, and many point to a fan, a sensor or the ice maker.
That helps, because a code narrows the search. But a code is a clue, not a diagnosis. A fan error can be a failed motor or just ice in the way. A compressor voltage code can be a surge or a failing board. We use the code to decide where to start, then test the part before we replace it.
A fridge can take up to 28 hours to reach its set temperature, according to Samsung. Our ice maker guide and refrigerator repair FAQs cover the general checks.

These figures come from Samsung’s support pages. They are the benchmarks we check against when a Samsung fridge misbehaves.
Allow up to 28 hours for the fridge to reach its set temperature, and about 3 hours after a power cycle before judging the change.
The freezer needs to be 0°F or below to make ice. Samsung recommends -2°F or lower, and below 3°F for ice cream.
Samsung says the room should stay between 50°F and 110°F, with about 2 inches of clearance around vents.
The ice maker needs at least 20 psi. A dispenser should fill about 6 ounces in under 10 seconds.
Samsung filters are rated for about 6 months or 300 gallons. An expired filter can cut pressure and ice production.
Hold the Test button until a chime (up to 10 seconds). The test takes about 6 minutes on a fridge-compartment ice maker and about 30 seconds in the freezer.
These are the codes we are asked about most. The meanings are from Samsung’s official page, and the middle columns add what we would try and when it is time to call.
| Code | What Samsung says it means | What to try | When to call |
|---|---|---|---|
| OF OF, O FF, OFF OFF | Cooling Off mode (demo or shop mode) | Hold the top two buttons for 5 to 8 seconds until the chime | If it will not leave this mode |
| 21E | Freezer fan error | Check for ice around the fan; power cycle | If the error returns |
| 22E, 22C | Fridge fan error | Unplug, leave the doors open for a few hours, restart | If it returns or the fridge is warm |
| 5E | Fridge defrost sensor error | Power cycle once | Call: a sensor needs testing |
| 8E, 14E | Ice maker sensor error | Power cycle; test the ice maker | Call if it returns |
| 33E | Ice pipe heater error | Do not force or heat the ice maker | Call |
| 39E, 39C | Ice maker function error | Power cycle; check water supply | Call if it returns |
| 40E, 40C | Ice room fan error | Check for ice buildup; power cycle | Call |
| 83E, 85E, 86E | Compressor abnormal current, under voltage, over voltage | Turn the power off for 60 seconds and restart | Call if it returns, since it can be a surge or a board |
| 84C | Compressor lock | Power cycle once | Call: the compressor circuit needs testing |
| 88 88, PC ER | Communication fault | Power off for 60 seconds; check the harness above the door | Call if it returns |
Code meanings are summarized from Samsung’s official support page: Samsung refrigerator error codes. Codes and fixes can differ by model, so check your manual too.
Match what you see to the usual cause, and to what is safe to try before you call.
| What you see | Usual cause | Safe first check | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ice maker frozen over or ice in a block (French door) | Ice room or fill area freezing; a frozen drain or weak defrost | Check the door seal; do not use heat | Defrost and fix the cause; parts depend on the model |
| No ice, dispenser gives water | Frozen fill tube or a failed ice maker module | Check the freezer is 0°F or below; try the test button | Thaw the tube and find why it froze, or replace the module |
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Evaporator fan, damper or frost on the coil | Look for frost; listen for the fan | Fan or defrost repair |
| Fridge not cooling, display shows OF OF | Cooling Off (demo) mode | Hold the top buttons for 5 to 8 seconds | None, if the mode clears |
| Water in the crisper drawers | Clogged or frozen defrost drain | Look for ice at the freezer floor | Clear the drain; fix why it froze |
| Slow or no water from the dispenser | Old filter, kinked line or a failed valve; on some models, cross-connected water lines | Replace the filter; check the lines | Valve or line repair |
| Dead or erratic after a storm | Voltage or communication fault; surge damage | Power cycle for 60 seconds | Replace the damaged part |
| Food freezing in the fridge | Power Cool on, or a stuck damper or sensor | Turn Power Cool off; move food from the vents | Damper or sensor repair |
On the call we ask the model number, the display code, and what the fridge is doing. A photo of the label inside helps.
We use the code to start, then test the fan, sensor, heater or compressor circuit to prove what has failed.
On French door models we check why the ice room iced up. Thawing it without fixing the cause means it returns.
You hear the cause, the part and the price, and whether warranty or extended coverage may apply.
We fit the part, run the fridge and tell you how long to wait before judging it.
Samsung is common in newer Fort Myers kitchens. These are the local factors we think about on every Samsung call.
Many Samsung fridges are in newer homes. Check warranty or any extended coverage before you pay, because some components have longer cover.
Samsung says the room should stay between 50°F and 110°F. A hot garage or humid kitchen makes ice-room freezing and sweating more likely.
Samsung lists voltage and communication codes that can follow a surge. A surge protector made for appliances helps.
An ice maker left idle can freeze up. Clean it, run it to temperature and use the test button before restocking.
$100 - $450 depending on scope
Most Samsung repairs in Fort Myers fall within $100 to $450. A fan, sensor, heater, valve or gasket is toward the lower end. A main control board, an ice maker assembly or a compressor can cost more. You get a clear quote before any work begins, and we tell you honestly when repairing is not the best value.
A sensor or fan is a modest repair. An in-door ice maker assembly or a compressor costs more.
Parts depend on the exact model. Give us the model number and we check before the visit.
Some Samsung components carry longer cover. Check with Samsung before paying for a major part.
If an ice room keeps freezing, the fix may involve more than one part, and we tell you.
On a fridge under about 10 years old, repair is usually worth it. On an older one, we compare with replacement.
When comparing companies, ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and whether parts and labor are in the quote.
| Job | Typical range | What it depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Fan motor or sensor | $95 to $280 | Part, model and access |
| Ice maker assembly | $120 to $500 | Basic or in-door French door unit |
| Control board or compressor | $500 to $1,000+ | Model, age and warranty |

Start with the display. If it shows OF OF, O FF, OFF OFF or scrolling bars, the fridge is in Cooling Off (demo) mode and will not cool until you turn it off. Samsung says to hold the two top buttons for 5 to 8 seconds until it chimes. If it is not in that mode, check the vents and clearance, then the fans, the defrost sensor and the sealed system.
Samsung lists 22E and 22C as a fridge fan error. Its suggested first step is to unplug the fridge, leave the doors open for a few hours, then restart it. The fan may have iced up or failed. If the code returns, the fan motor or the defrost system needs testing, which is a repair we do often.
On some French door models, the ice maker sits in the fridge compartment, and ice can build up around the ice room or the fill area. Samsung says not to defrost the ice maker yourself with heat or force, because that can damage it. Thawing helps for a while, but if it returns, the cause needs fixing. Parts depend on your model, so give us the model number.
Samsung says to press and hold the Test button until you hear a chime, which can take up to 10 seconds. The test takes about 6 minutes on a fridge-compartment ice maker and about 30 seconds on a freezer-compartment one, and at the end the water valve should hum and pour water. If nothing happens, the ice maker or the water supply has a fault.
Samsung says the freezer must be 0°F or below to make ice. It recommends -2°F or lower for the freezer, and below 3°F if you want ice cream hard. If the freezer cannot reach 0°F, the problem is on the cooling side, not the ice maker.
Samsung says to allow up to 28 hours for the fridge to reach its set temperature. After a power cycle, wait about 3 hours before judging the change. Do not keep adjusting the setting. Check a thermometer, and call us if it is still warm after a day.
These are compressor current and voltage errors: abnormal current, under voltage and over voltage. They can follow a surge or a power problem. Samsung says to turn the power off for 60 seconds and restart. If the error returns, the relay, board or compressor needs testing, and we check the cheap parts first.
Water pooling in the crisper drawers or ice under the freezer is often a frozen defrost drain. Water on the floor can be the supply line, the inlet valve or the filter housing. Shut off the supply valve behind the fridge. If the leak stops, it is on the water side. Do not wait, because water under tile does real damage.
Check the filter first. Samsung says its filters are rated for about 6 months or 300 gallons, and an expired one cuts the pressure. Then check the water line for kinks and the supply valve. The ice maker needs at least 20 psi, and a dispenser should fill about 6 ounces in under 10 seconds. On some models with two water lines, cross-connected lines cause dispenser failures.
Usually yes if the fridge is under about 10 years old and the fault is a fan, sensor, heater, valve or gasket. If the repair costs more than half of a comparable new fridge, replacing it is the better value. Check your warranty and any extended coverage first. We give you the repair price and an honest view.

We repair Samsung refrigerators using the manufacturer's published guidance as a reference, and we tell you honestly if a manufacturer warranty or extended coverage may be worth checking before you pay.
Yes. We repair Samsung refrigerators across Fort Myers and nearby areas, including Cape Coral, Estero, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. Give us the model number, the display code and what the fridge is doing when you call, and we plan the visit.
Check the freezer is 0°F or below, the water supply is open at 20 psi or more and the filter is not past about 6 months or 300 gallons. Samsung says to use the Test button, holding it until a chime, and not to defrost the ice maker with heat. On some French door models, a frozen ice room or fill area is the cause. If the test does nothing, the ice maker needs service.
